HŌʻĀ is proud to host a wide range of site-specific community activation opportunities including, hula, oli (chanting), hana noʻeau (arts and crafts), ʻaha (ceremony), moʻolēlo (history and storytelling), mahiʻai (food security), kahu ʻāina (land stewardship), hoʻokipa (community events), kūkūlu kaiaulu (community building) and many more!
ONLINE
A four part series in collaboration with Kaleinohea Cleghorn. Ku mai is designed to increase our literacy of the elemental shift of season. Ku mai is a community experience where the practice of chant will be resourced to construct a functional and relevant relationship to the elements of Ku.
HONOKAʻA / HĀMĀKUA
In this program we manage a 70 acre lease property for the betterment of the Hāmākua community through developing a living, learning space of healthy diversified sustainable agriculture and native forest restoration.
WAIPIʻO / HĀMĀKUA
Located at the point of Mokuwai, this ʻāina lovingly named Kalaemomona, “The Bountiful Point”, was first reclaimed from the jungle and reopened for educational programs. \
NIULI’I / KOHALA
In this program we work towards the restoration and revitalization of the ancient stone walled loʻi (terraced water gardens) infrastructure of Niuliʻi.
HAWAIʻI ISLAND
This 6-day contemporary community ceremony launched in 2014, with roots and permission given by Pitt River elders, ritualistic running was offered as a method of prayer.
PELEKANE / KAWAIHAE
This seasonal ceremony marks the end of the Makahiki season (the time of Lono) and the moving into Kau (the time of KŪ).
MT. SHASTA / NO.CAL
This two week long event was created to encourage a rediscovery of indigenous Slavic traditions
GOTEMBA / JAPAN
Japanese students returned to their homelands and set up a ceremonial run focused on the sacred mountain of Fuji.
