Wehe Kū

Pelekāne, Kawaihae

This annual seasonal ceremony marks the end of the Makahiki season (the time of Lono) and the moving into Kau (the time of KŪ). Held below Puʻukohola, the temple of State from the forging of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, we invoke the need to kū - to rise, and face our challenges. To plant intentions and ku mai -  rise them up. The second day of this ceremony consists of a massive planting in Honokaʻa where consecrated trees are planted by the community in ceremony.
